Saving The Poormans Stream

Saving Poormans Stream

1.  What prompted Mitchell to do something about his nearby stream?
What made him do that was to make the Enviroment better and cleaner.

2. Where was most of the rubbish around the stream?
Near the bushes, behind the trees and in the lake.

3. If this was the case, where would the rubbish around Omaru Creek be?
Around the plants and in the river, in beneath the bushes.

4. Find out who makes and sells the Stream Health Monitoring Assessment Kit and how much it costs.  THIS COMPANY IS CALLED NIWA. who were the company that created this.

5. How does Mitchell know the stream is pretty healthy?
Because he sees sea creatures living inside the lake.

6. Do you think Omaru Creek is healthy? Why?
No. Omaru Creek is not that healthy, because we know that it is one of the most polluted Creeks in Auckland.

7. Is there any information that the SHMAK kit gets that you think we could find out about Omaru Creek? Yes The SHMAK could test out the water and see if it is dirty or not!!!

8. What is an estuary? Find an image of one and copy it in this doc.
9. If you were helping to write a Care Code for Omaru Creek what are 4 guidelines would you suggest. Clean up the rubbish, test the water, put more trees, make it less polluted.

10. Why would you need guidelines for a clean up? So you could get ready before the clean up.

11. What is the focus for World Environment Day in 2013? (you will need to google this)
is Think.Eat.Save. Reduce Your Food print

12. What do you think we could we do on June 5th? Have our own Environment Day for Omaru Creek.

13. Why was Mitchell disappointed after the clean up? Straight after the clean again Mitchell had to clean even more rubbish from the stream.

14. What does rubbish do to the water and the life around it? It could make it even more polluted.

15. You are going to fill in this venn diagram about the differences and similarities between Poormans Stream and Omaru Creek:
Draw this shape on clean paper and fill it in.
Take a screenshot to post on your blog with an explanation.

Omaru Creek Sketching

It was a Beautiful Sunny Day at the Omaru Creek. Rooms 17, 18 and 16 walked down to the creek to do some sketching. Different places we went, I went near the Rubbish Catcher and near Elstree Ave. Wind was blowing in my face while sketching the trees in front of me.

It was quite fun working with some friends. Only if I could draw somewhere more easy.  Everywhere I had went near the lake there was Duck Poo, I said to myself “ EWW Duck POO everywhere” But lucky I hadn’t stood on any.

Sketching across the lake I had just noticed a building in front of me it was the Glen Innes Family centre. Where many families in Glen Innes come together. “The water is so dirty and green” I said to my friend. Omaru Creek is the best place to sketch, draw or visit it has great flowers and a great place to walk.

Typing test

It has been forever since I have been doing Typing test. Typing test is the best place to go if you would like to type very fast. My score is 34 and I am very proud of it. I think typing so fast can make you get better at spelling words. Here is the link to go to that site.

The 1st Day of School!!

WOW!! The 4th of February had came. Waking up very early my stomach was so  sore, I think it was just my nerves. Finally I stepped out of my bed and got ready for school.

Eating my Breakfast I finally got into my shoes and walked to school.Even more nerves came up. But as finally I saw my friends we started to hug and walk to the hall together. New people that I haven’t even seen before have joined our school, mostly New Entrance.

One step into the hall and the 2nd bell rang.  They finally called out my name for being in Room 17. The best part of being in Room 17 was that we got to have 3 teachers. And there were no walls through to Rooms 16 and 18 do you want to know why? Well the teachers thought we were so Amazing they wanted to share all three classrooms.

Thank you Hannah for editing and checking my work for me!! Your writing was AMAZING too!!

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day is a very special day that many kiwis that live in New Zealand celebrate. Waitangi Day also celebrates the  history of New Zealand. It is also a  public holiday held every year on the 6th of February to celebrate the signing of The treaty of  Waitangi Day. These are most of the reasons why New Zealand celebrates it. Are gonna join and celebrate it too?

The Omaru Creek

During the term our classes have been learning about the Omaru Creek, just beside our school. the most AMAZING part of learning about the Omaru creek learning different things about it with different teachers. Sketching from places around the Creek was so cool. It was like we were on a Adventure at the Creek.

Learning all sorts of things I had started to get even more interested in water and the Creek. I LOVED LEARNING ABOUT THE CREEK. I hope there will be more interesting things to learn about!!!
