2015 Reflection


This year was the BEST year I’ve had so far. First was Year 8 leadership camp, then came our Polyfest trip. Which was held at the Manukau Sports bowl. I think these 2 events were one of the best events that were held!!


Why it was my favourite? Well the year 8 leadership camp was the best event because, we got to learn about how we can get back to school and show what we have learnt.Throughout that camp I have learnt to become a good role model to others around our school and area.  


The best thing that I am looking forward to this term is our trip to parakai. Why? Well we get to bond with our friends and even our classmates too. This year has been a great experience by bonding with more people that I usually hang out with.


My goals for next year are too try and improve my learning without any distractions. This year I think that I would have improved better at Maths and listening to instructions. I think that I could do better next year Maths by listening to instructions carefully and also staying focused.


If I was to give this year a rating. I would give myself a 10 out of 10. Why? Well this year has been a great experience helping out the year 7’s become better leaders. The leadership camp helped us improve our skills and it also helped us bond with the other Year 8’s too.


This year was so cool. Because we got be in new teachers classrooms. Like Miss Peato, Mr Wiseman, Miss Clark, Miss Hockly and Mrs Moala. The most exciting thing was also when Mrs Tele’a had came to teach us too. It was really cool experiencing different teachers in our area.

For 2016 I think that I’d need to change my attitude and also speaking more quietly. Why? Well this year I’ve got told so many times to be quiet. Also my attitude this year was Good. But I’d like my attitude to be GREAT!!


I am really looking forward to next year! First year of COLLEGE Yayyy!

Rhyming Poems

Future Aspiration


Last week on Thursday our yr 7 and 8 team had the privilege to hear from 2 amazing speakers. Which were from Marcus Winter ( The Sand man) and also by  Louis  Gordon- Latty.

We first heard from Andrew Patterson who introduced us to Marcus and Louis. Andrew had quotes that inspired us, and the first he had said was “ Do more of what makes you AWESOME!!” Hearing and listening to what Andrew had to say really inspired me.  After he had spoken we got to hear from Marcus Winter.

It was great to hear how Marcus went from the streets to working in ships and over in Australia. What does he do for a living? Well Marcus Winter is a sand artist. Which he creates art with sand. Marcus started from Otara Markets to working on the streets in the city where he met Andrew Patterson, then went into Ships over in Australia.

He even talked about back in primary, when  he was always the last to finish off handwriting.  but now look where he is.  In the big shows and stadiums performing his very own art.  

It was great to hear that when we grow older more things change. I can’t wait to be a Social Worker when Im older!!


6 Thinking Hats

Dusty Room

Tearing walls ripping down

The smell of mold goes round and round

The taste of black Licorice  makes everything vicious

Windy sounds come rushing through in different areas of the room
From wall to wall the smell gets stronger
Inside and outside no smell of delight
Trapped all alone and nowhere to go     
But no need to stress it's just a big mess

Walking through the door

we notice the ripped walls

molded roofs
with rats crawling through
 
and cockroaches

crawling round and round         



As I arrived in the room I looked down.

And I see Paint falling off the roof and I start to drown

I could smell a Musty smell on the wall.
Than I start feeling small.
When I looked around I can hear the Mouse's footsteps running on the roof.
But I wish it would be soundproof
As I drew the Curtains then I feel goosebumps coming up my arm
As I walk around the room I have this kind of dry taste in my mouth like I want to spew it out.



The room starts to rumble
 The ceiling began to crumble
Smelling mold
I start to get a cold
Everything’s broken
And it can’t be spoken
Disgusting floors
Covered in paint
Broken draws
I wanted to faint

For the past few weeks Team 5 have been learning about Poetry and Rhyming. We are also learning to use Rhyming schemes. You are probably wondering what a rhyming scheme is. Well a rhyming scheme is using The letters from A through to H t rhyme a new word through your poem. For an example The scheme might be AABB.

In this equation we had to try and solve what 196 + ____ equaled to 853. I got the answer 657, so 196  657 = 853!! I also used the Round to solve this question. In this thinkboard it shows my thinking, a word story problem and even 5 questions that are similar to this question.

Flying Pigs Programme

I had came across to one of those boring first week of the holidays. Then I just remembered, what I was going to do the next week!!
Finally the day had arrived. Wednesday morning, Mary had came knocking on my door. I rushed down the stairs got my bag and went out and waited for Miss Wild to pick us up. We then drove off to the ANZ Viaduct Centre.

The programme that we had attended was called “Flying Pigs” Weird name right? Well this programme is for teenages who basically don’t have anything to do in the holidays. But also this programme helps with long living choices.

Mary and I got out of the car and waved bye to our teacher. As we walked into the room. I had noticed that we were the first ones there. I was really scared at first knowing we were going to do activities with strangers, which now I call my friends for the next three days.

One of the best days that I had enjoyed at this programme was getting to go into TVNZ!!! Why? Because we got to learn about more things that Directors do behind the scenes of our NZ shows. It was really cool experiencing different jobs that people do.

One of the best things that our leaders told me that I did well was learning to use the vision mixer. A vision mixer is a person that controls the different camera shots. So that person presses a lot of buttons just to change the camera shot. Which was really cool!!

I got to meet a whole bunch of new friends through this programme.  There were a bit of quiet ones, and loud crazy funny ones. But at the end of the week we all had fun!! Hopefully the next group of teenagers can experience what we have!!

Immersion Assembly

Finally the first day of Term 4 had come!! I was really looking forward to what our topic was going to be.  It was Monday morning as I rushed into our classroom door. Filled with excitement I dashed quickly to  our classroom’s wall which had a poster of what we were going to be learning about. SURVIVOR, was our Topic for this term!

The 8:45 bell had rung, I quickly ran towards the hall as all the prefects were waiting for me. Assembly had finally started!! The items from Team 1 - 4 were amazing!! Knowing that team 1 was going to be learning about the zoo and even going on a trip to the zoo sounded surprisingly fun!

Then there was team 4’s movie. I think it was one of the best movies that were shown. Why? Well in the movie they showed four students getting interviewed in the green screen room. While they were getting interviewed there was a movie playing in the background, it was showing different animals. So in the end Team 4 is learning about how animals live.

It was now Team 5’s item. While our teachers were getting closer to the stage. The prefects and I rushed towards the back to find out what our team was learning about. When we got there our teachers had already started performing. Waiting waiting and waiting, finally they started their performance.

Their performance was amazing. Soo team 5 is learning about how people and animals eat and survive in the places they live in. Sad thing was it was our year 8’s last Immersion Assembly.

How to prevent yourself from getting sick

Ugh! It’s winter, and what comes with winter is sickness!! It really does suck being sick. We should all learn how to look after ourselves. Below there are ways from preventing yourself from getting sick.

One of the easiest ways of staying healthy is eating a balanced range of food. This means eating from the 5 food groups with a focus on fruits and vegetables. If you do that then your body will receive all the nutrients it needs to be in the best condition to fight off invading germs.

Another way to prevent yourself from getting sick is by not sharing drinks or foods with other people. This means if you have a drink or a really nice food do not share it with others if you have already taken a bite from it, why? Well your your saliva could get into the food or drink that you have already drank or eaten. If you do this you could also prevent others from getting sick.

The last and final way to prevent yourself from getting sick is to wash your hands frequently. This means after coming from the bathroom and before dinner you should always wash your hands. Why? because you could be spreading your germs into your dinner or after you’ve used the bathroom. If you do this you could help yourself and also people around from getting sick.

Eating healthier, Washing your hands and NOT sharing food with others could really help you!! If you do these things you could live a better and healthy life.  I hope you live long and happy life!

Netball Eastern Tournament


On Wednesday I had the opportunity to record our Netball mixed teams at the Eastern tournament. It was held for the age groups through from year 5 to 8.


While I was at the tournament I got to record our schools games, and the first game I was able to film was the Yr 7&8 B team. Who played against Stonefield's school, and won!! Finding out that they won got us all excited!


I recorded a lot of games on that day, and as the day went on our four  teams were all in the finals. Listening closely to who each team was playing in the finals got us all filled with excitement! The Yr 7&8B team played Glen Taylor and lost, as well as the A team. Although both our Yr 5 and 6 teams came first in their grade.


It was an amazing day!! Watching and filming all the good things that happened on that day. I even caught a all the goals that our yr 5 team had shot in their finals!

Congratulations Point England!! You all did Great!!!!

Letter to Gustav Guttenbeil


              Dear Gustav Guttenbeil,

Hopefully you could get sent back to Tonga for all that’s wrong that the New  Zealand  Government has done.  Malo E lelei my name is Sela.

I was just reading your letter and thinking about how sad your story was. It is quite terrifying to hear that your father had died. I know how it feels when something wrong has happened when you didn’t do it. Also knowing that were interned wrongly was a great mistake. Why did they do that?  

I do believe that it was a huge mistake as you were interned. Sooner or later the government should notice that you should be in war. Hopefully the government reads your letter and kindly sends you back to Tonga.

Zeal Zone Anzac Biscuits

Zeal Zone. 8th May 2015!! Today my zeal zone class had the most amaazziing opportunity to bake Anzac Biscuits with one of our teachers Mrs Tele'a. Today I learnt that Food could keep you alive, it  is a part of your bodies daily diet and It could make someone Happy. I really enjoyed today's lesson, as I am looking forward to eating these Goodies!!

Polyfest 2015

                                                   

   P O L Y F E S T

Finally we arrived, and so far I already was looking forward to the day. First we headed into the entrance and looking around got me filled with excitement. Different food stalls, culture, types of music and even different types of costumes.

On Thursday 19th of March the yr 7 and 8 students had an AMAZING opportunity to visit Polyfest for 2015!! It was also the 40th year since, Polyfest was first invented.

Walking through to our first station, which was ASB introducing themselves, which was quite exciting. We even got to see John Key!! New Zealand's Prime Minister.  There were different stations we were able to attend, but the first my group had went to was learning about Firemen and what they do for a living.

We learnt a lot about different things. Like what fire engines do, how Glowbug could help with your life, and also learning how to create a stress ball with AUT (Auckland University) There were times during the day when we even created flower leis for each other.

After a very looong day, our teacher kindly let us go on a tour around Polyfest. I was looking forward to seeing and also watching the Niuean stage and performances. But suddenly we had to leave. What an amaaaazing day we had.

Writing

“ Yaaayyyy” My brother yelled in the morning. Running towards my brother I asked him with a worried face “ What is it? what’s happening?” He replied “ Didn’t you remember were going Rainbows End!” But by then I just remembered. It was on a hot sunny Saturday as my family and I went on a family trip, down to Rainbows End.

I was sooooo excited, I couldn't wait. After all we had to wait till five in the afternoon since the gates opened then. Thinking about all the new rides that have been created and built. The sad thing was my sister, brother and I were only able to go also with my aunty and her children.

I just kept checking the time and calling my aunty to see what time she was going to pick us up. But finally the time had come to 4:00pm my sister, brother and I were getting ready for a fun and exciting night out!! Before we were even getting ready, my sister and I were so frustrated we had to finish of chores we didn't get to finish of during the day. Running around the house cleaning the kitchen and lounge we had finally come to an end.

Everything checked up and ready to leave!! I was relieved that I got chosen to go, since there were only 6 tickets my aunty had bought. Waiting excitingly as my aunty FINALLY drove in towards our driveway. As I yelled “ Tina (My sister) were going now!!!” I quickly ran towards the car and said happily “ Bye mum” Off we went.

As my aunty said it was set up for a family day out, for what she works for and we had an amazing opportunity to go Rainbows End. Driving towards the motorway it started pouring and rough rain started hitting the van. I started hoping the rain would go away. But as we got nearer and nearer, the sun came out again and we were all relieved!!!

We were to roads away from Rainbows End, when we hit Red Light! We had to stop. Looking at the rides excitingly made me want to jump out of the car and run towards the entrance immediately, but that would’ve been stupid.Finally Green light!! Driving towards the car park, my cousins and I were all excited we started screaming with happiness.

Out we went and in the entrance we go. Walking through the entrance gate, we happily ran towards the Rainbows End Mascots and asked if we could take a photo. When they happily replied “ Sure” Our aunt was our photographer for the day “Done” she said.

Staring at the new EXTREME rides got me filled with butterflies. We got hungry, we asked our aunt if we could have our tickets to eat!! Running towards the table, we got to create our very own burgers. Mine had a chicken patty, with sesame buns, lettuce, mayonnaise, tomatoes and Barbecue sauce. It was Deeelicoussss.

We all got to go on different rides but my favourite had to be the Fearfall!! It was quite scary at first but then at the end I wanted to go on it again and again and again!! My little brother was too scared to go on the rides like that, I pretty sure he was  scared of heights!

Just before I went on the Fearfall, I stared at the Stratosfear with fear! It got me worried how it spun round and round in the air!! I asked my aunt if I could go on it she replied “ No you might get to scared to” As I gasped. I even went on all the rides but that one, It would've been my favorite!! To bad we had to go home since it was getting quite late.

Goal Settings

First Day Back at School!!!

Finally it was the First Day back, and already I am looking forward to this year. It is also Officially my last year at Point England too. Yesterday had to be the best day of 2015!!! First we started off with an Assembly which welcomed everyone back to school, we also got to find out who our teachers were. Well mine was Miss Clark who teaches Room 2 with year 7 and 8 students.

I am also officially a Prefect for 2015. Being a Prefect is an amazing opportunity to being a good role model to the school. I am looking forward to this year, as its going to be Creative!!
